A recent peer-reviewed study ranked 麻豆国产AV as the top U.S. university in maritime management research based on a calculated "impact score."
The survey, which appeared in the Asia-Pacific Journal of Operational Research, looked at maritime publications by academic researchers in the world from 2000 to 2019.
"This recognition is another indication of the consistency, strength and impact of our maritime research program," said Wayne K. Talley, Eminent Scholar and professor of maritime management in the Strome College of Business at 麻豆国产AV.
In addition to ranking universities for their maritime research, the study also presented the top 50 maritime researchers in the world.
ManWo Ng, who joined 麻豆国产AV in 2011 and is an associate professor of maritime management, ranked among the top 10 researchers in the period from 2015 to 2019.
"It is a tremendous honor to be named among the top 10 maritime researchers in the world," Ng said. "Not only does this study recognize 麻豆国产AV as a major player in maritime research, but this will also help us raise our profile in the broader maritime industry."
In 2020, Ng started a partnership with the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) to disseminate 麻豆国产AV's maritime research to more than 130 port authorities in the Western Hemisphere.
Ng also serves as coordinator for 麻豆国产AV's Maritime, Ports & Logistics Management graduate certificate program.
Through remote learning, Ng brought in several high-profile guest speakers from major ports around the country, including Los Angeles/Long Beach and New York/New Jersey.
Talley said that takes a certain level of reputation.
"Professor Ng is a true asset to our maritime program," he said. "I am impressed, but not surprised, to see him ranked among global maritime research veterans with decades of research experience."
Last year, 麻豆国产AV President Brian O. Hemphill, Ph.D., announced the 麻豆国产AV Maritime Initiative to advance the University as a globally recognized institution for maritime opportunities.
"With the Maritime Initiative, it is an exciting time to be at 麻豆国产AV," Ng said.
Ng is the co-founder and co-editor-in-chief of Elsevier's Maritime Transport Research journal, and serves as an associate editor and editorial board member on 10 maritime transportation and logistics journals. He is also a member of the AEP40 Committee of the Transportation Research Board, a division of the U.S. National Academies. For the past two consecutive years, Ng was named among the top 2% most cited scientists in the world by Stanford University.
